In response to the global imperative to address climate change, industries are gearing up to embrace sustainable production methods aimed at protecting the environment and curbing carbon emissions. The commitment is highlighted by the upcoming Green Business Expo slated to lay the groundwork for achieving ambitious targets in this regard.
Amidst increasing scrutiny on corporate environmental responsibility, listed companies are now mandated to disclose their adherence to clean production practices in their financial reports, signaling a broader shift towards sustainability within the business community.
Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) chief executive officer Nicholas Ndebele confirmed plans for the inaugural Green Business Expo scheduled for September of this year highlighting its significance in consolidating efforts towards sustainable production in light of the urgent need to mitigate climate change impacts.
“The Expo marks a significant milestone as we advocate for industry and commerce to embrace carbon emissions reduction system. Our primary focus is to promote the adoption of clean energy solutions and responsible resource management practices that safeguard the interests of future generations,” Ndebele said.
He added, “The ZITF will host such an expo and already we are in discussions with the Government, the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency, including private sector representatives on what needs to be done to ensure that the strategy can translate into positive results. It is our hope and trust that going forward, Zimbabwe will also benefit from such an arrangement where the developing economies have been hard hit by the negative effects of climate change. No wonder why we are coming up with this expo to showcase strides on agenda, identify challenges and focus on the way forward.”
Defined by the Global Energy Journal, green business entails operating in an environmentally sustainable manner, prioritizing the reduction of waste, conservation of natural resources, and the utilization of renewable energy sources.
With the impending Green Business Expo, Zimbabwe is poised to make significant strides in aligning its industries with global sustainability standards, contributing to both environmental protection and economic resilience in the face of climate change challenges.
