Meikles Zimbabwe, a conglomerate known for its diverse portfolio spanning hotels, retail, supermarkets, agriculture, financial services, and security services, is making significant strides in reducing its environmental footprint.
In the company’s financial statement for the year 2023, Chairman John Moxon outlined the company’s ongoing and future initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability across its operations.
“The Group continues to progress in reducing negative environmental impacts from its operations. Some of the activities in the Group’s operational plans include annual tree planting, refrigeration equipment upgrades, promoting biodegradable carrier bags, and changes in waste handling methods,” Moxon said.
One of the cornerstone initiatives is the annual tree-planting program, which not only helps combat deforestation but also contributes to carbon sequestration efforts.
These efforts reflect Meikles’ broader commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices as Moxon noted, “In addition, the Group has incorporated sustainability issues in its governance processes and structures.”
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance green spaces and biodiversity in the areas where Meikles operates.
