Mashonaland Holdings, a prominent player in the real estate market, is leading the way in environmental sustainability by participating in the Zimbabwe Green Buildings Council and implementing eco-friendly practices across its operations.
The company advocates for clean alternative energy by incorporating solar power into its properties, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions. For diesel-powered generators used as backup, Mashonaland Holdings secures carbon emissions licenses for each generator set, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. These licenses undergo rigorous inspections and audits by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) before being renewed annually.
As of December 31, all generator sets were properly licensed and met the necessary carbon emission standards. The company’s commitment to sustainability extends to its property development projects, which feature elements such as rainwater harvesting and optimizing natural light use.
“Mashonaland Holdings is an active member of the Zimbabwe Green Buildings Council, advocating for sustainable building concepts in the local built environment. Within its portfolio, the company continues to adopt clean alternative energy through solar power. For diesel generators used as backup power, we have carbon emissions licenses for every set, renewed annually upon satisfactory EMA inspections. As of December 31, all generator sets were compliant with carbon emission parameters,” stated the company in its 2023 annual report.
Mashonaland Holdings’ proactive approach to sustainable development sets a high industry standard, showcasing the potential for environmentally conscious growth and development. The company has successfully transitioned its entire residential portfolio to solar energy, including current development projects.
Additionally, the company emphasizes responsible resource consumption through digitization and automation initiatives aimed at reducing waste and improving efficiency. Paper usage has significantly decreased as a result of automating several processes.
Other sustainable methods, such as rainwater collection and maximizing natural light, are already being applied in the company’s ongoing property development projects.
