Invictus Energy Limited has announced the discovery of eight key prospects, totaling 2.9 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas and 184 million barrels (MMbbl) of condensate, within its Cabora Bassa Project in Zimbabwe.
This follows a comprehensive seismic survey data interpretation and prospectivity assessment.
As the next step, the company will focus its exploration drilling campaign on the Musuma prospect, estimated to hold 1.17 Tcf of gas. This will serve as a test for the eastern gas prospectivity, complementing further appraisal drilling in the Mukuyu gas field.
Managing Director of Invictus Energy, Scott Macmillan expressed enthusiasm for the results of the CB23 seismic survey, stating, “We are extremely pleased to have identified significant prospectivity in the eastern portion of our acreage.”
He added, “Exploration success at these prospects could unlock additional value in our portfolio and align with our early gas monetization strategy. We have identified high-confidence drill targets for our next exploration campaign and look forward to providing updates on the progress of Mukuyu gas field testing and appraisal, farm-out, and the broader Cabora Bassa exploration program.”
Further analysis has been conducted to mature these and other prospects in the deeper Pebbly Arkose and Angwa Formations, evaluating prospective volumes and potential drilling targets.
The interpretation of the 2023 2D seismic survey data revealed multiple prospects with substantial gas volumes at various stratigraphic levels. These targets’ relatively shallow depths and, in some cases, stacked prospective intervals offer the potential for testing with simple vertical wells.
Based on Invictus’ 80% ownership in the Cabora Bassa project, the company’s net share of the prospective resource would amount to 2.3 Tcf and 147 MMbbl of condensate. These central fairway gas prospects in the eastern portion of Invictus’ exploration portfolio complement the previously reported Basin Margin prospects.
The Company will conduct a further evaluation of the Basin Margin play to select additional prospects for a future drilling campaign.
