In a move at bolstering climate proofing, access to clean water and enhance the livelihoods of
communities, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Midlands Province, Owen Ncube recently commissioned the Chisadza Solar-Powered Piped Water Scheme in Vungu Constituency, Gweru.
Addressing guests at the commissioning ceremony, Minister Ncube emphasized the crucial role of clean water in community development. “Access to clean water is an indicator of the level of development of a community, and the New Dispensation is undertaking inclusive water provision programs and projects, leaving no one and no place behind in line with the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal number 6 of ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all,” said Ncube.
The Chisadza piped water scheme, initially aimed at supporting the Impala Clinic with portable water, has been expanded to benefit a broader range of the community. The Minister highlighted the impact of the devolution and decentralization agenda saying it had changed livelihoods.
“The Devolution and decentralization agenda has transformed the livelihoods of our communities by providing key educational, health, and water and sanitation infrastructure among others,” he said.
The project, spanning 8km from the water source, is set to benefit approximately 6,000 beneficiaries, including Chisadza Primary and Secondary Schools. Minister Ncube commended the collaborative efforts of Vungu Rural District Council, the local community, and the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) for spearheading the implementation and management of this milestone project.
